Feb. 7th, 2003 03:18 pmLast night was one of those awful nights that comes along periodically during which the baby goes to sleep at 11:45, then wakes up at 2:20, 4:20, and 6:20... So I lay in bed and kept myself up even more by fuming about the war. How if the French cave then the Security Council will give Bush a second resolution, and that will give him an unassailable position withe American public (because we have "allies"), and then it's win-win for him -- even if the aftermath of the war goes badly, Americans will rally around him no matter what...
You just have to think about the fact that Clinton had absolutely nothing on this guy. How is it possible that the Republicans were so freaked out by Clinton, to hate him so much? What did he accomplish, after all, that was so awful to them? Nothing! And yet they actually made a movie about Clinton starting a war to improve his poll numbers!
I feel it's going to be such a long time before anything gets better in this country. I knew the second after I heard about Monica that that was it, that was the apogee for things and that the pendulum would swing back hard for who knows how long.

It's snowing like crazy right now -- very pretty end to a pointless week. J., who we used to know at Hopkins and have seen a couple of times since then (most notably the weekend before the baby was born) is coming down from Boston to spend the weekend with us. Between the bad night last night and the Mrs. being sick and the baby being fussier than usual, I hope things go OK. Also I have to drive out in this snowstorm to get her at the bus terminal. But we are very much looking forward to normal human contact.
UPDATE 3:17: The bus lines are running late so there's no way she could get here in time for shabbos, and she's even more observant than us, so no dice. Now I'm really, really depressed. We got all this food and stuff.
This is a truly amazing amount of snow.
