Although time has no meaning up here, slowly, things are happening. My sister-in-law and her boyfriend were pointlessly fired by the bistro they were working at, so the summer as it's been is basically over. My in-laws are coming up today or tomorrow and they will all more or less leave together. I have to go down to Providence to fly out for Richie's wedding. We will come back up here for a couple of weeks of having the place to ourselves, and I guess that will more or less be it. Kind of an anticlimax.

We had [livejournal.com profile] librarygrrl and her husband over for dinner night before last. Can it really have been thirteen years since I saw her? Her husband bonded with Phoebe, whom he decided to call "Mister Doodles" for some reason. We're supposed to do something with them on Sunday. I think they are a little disappointed with the weather, though from what I hear it's dreadful everywhere. Hey, at least in Maine, when it rains constantly, there's also fog, which is pretty cool. There's fog around here pretty much all the time, actually.

The baby is pulling herself up and crawling everywhere. Meanwhile, she has a tendency to put everything on the floor in her mouth, requiring a constant round of chasing after her and fishing whatever she's got either from her slimy little hands or from her mouth. What's in there is usually something slightly gross, like a rock or a twig or a pine needle or a piece of onion skin. This is in addition to her usual oral fixations, which center on electrical and phone cords. I will be glad when this particular phase of child development is over.

At least in general she is sleeping through the night, even with a fair amount of teething this week. So we in turn can count on a decent night of sleep, even if it is never as long as we'd like.

Next week, the wedding looms. Richie still hasn't gotten back to me about finding me a free place to stay, and the hotel I booked is remote from everyone else. Soon I will have to fish or cut bait about all that. Then there's this whole groomsman thing... he wants us all to wear dark grey suits. I don't have a dark suit. It would be easier to rent a tux; they don't rent dark suits, or at least that's what I am figuring out. So it's either shell out $200 for a new suit, or tell him I can't do it. Also, there's no place to buy a suit up here except maybe for Burlington Coat Factory... so this is getting pretty sticky. I wish so much right now that I could drop the whole thing. It's going to be an expensive, uncomfortable thing from beginning to end. But what else are weddings anyway, right?
