I saw a few days ago that [livejournal.com profile] sethg_prime had friended me. I started reading his journal, which is leftie and Jewish, and I am in the mood for that kind of mix these days -- especially the leftie part -- and exploring. And I start looking idly at pictures. And start squinting a little. Hey. I know these people.

[livejournal.com profile] sethg_prime's journal is linked to [livejournal.com profile] gnomi and mentions some other people I have met at J. and A.'s place in Boston. A. being someone I know well for about 15 years or so. Actually went to my prom with, and is well known to my old friends who read this. Heck, [livejournal.com profile] flw actually went with me to visit her in Cleveland once. And I do believe that [livejournal.com profile] sethg_prime and I met at said J. and A.'s place in Brighton once. At the very least I met some other people he mentions as friends at their place.

How did [livejournal.com profile] sethg_prime decide to read my journal? I believe through seeing my posts in a community and/or seeing me as a friend of [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh, who I found through an interest search a while ago. I haven't actually met [livejournal.com profile] chanaleh, but it would seem that there are a couple of people on my friendslist who have, including a couple I know IRL, which means that she might actually know a couple of my bona fide friends IRL. (Also there is someone I went to grad school with and still keep in touch with who belongs to her shul and knows who she is.)

Neither J. nor A. seem to actually have one of these here LJs, but surely it can't be long.

It's just a little weird, this virtual community thing. It also makes me feel a slight twinge about having left Boston just before discovering all these people. Things could have been so different... ah well.

None of yunz are coming to Providence any time soon by chance, are you? By "yunz" I mean "anyone who happens to be reading this."

well, I am contemplating going to my (gulp) 10-year college reunion in Boston in June. Is that close enough?

When in June? Think you could see us as you drive up 95?

Well I could fly into Greene for about $50 round trip, and then train into Boston...

Easily done to ferry you to the station. So, what weekend?

June 11-14 probably.

What's going on? Or do you just miss me? :)

You know, nothing special. I asked if anyone was coming to town and you said yes. But yes, we'd really, really like to see you!

Seth might have also found you through me. His main journal is syndicated at [livejournal.com profile] sethg, by the way; I think he uses [livejournal.com profile] sethg_prime mainly for posting comments here.

I have no idea if I've ever met him; I think he and I found each other via [livejournal.com profile] gnomi, and I couldn't off-hand say who found the other first.

I would be surprised if J. or A. got LJs. They just don't seem the type.

Providence ... I've heard of the place. They have an airport, right? :-)

I spent so much of my life using this airport, I figured I might as well move here! Actually, I am not entirely kidding.

I'd totally come down to Providence to meet you guys. When would be good? :-)

The only people I am aware of knowing on your friends list are [livejournal.com profile] saxikath (whom I understand you do know IRL, and I know from [livejournal.com profile] mitgsp); and [livejournal.com profile] laurens10 and [livejournal.com profile] msmidge, my friends from Brandeis. Well, and now [livejournal.com profile] sethg (Mrs. SethG, a.k.a. [livejournal.com profile] lucretia_borgia, also being a friend from college). If there are any others, I'd be wildly interested to know.

Well, do you know the J. and A. I am talking about in Brighton? Then the circle would be very small indeed. I guess [livejournal.com profile] saxikath is the only LJer I knew IRL in common with you.

As for Providence, I dunno, you got a shabbos free one of these days? Actually, finding out when we do is a challenge...

I don't think I know J & A (having done a little more poking around ropine.com to ascertain who that actually denotes). I wouldn't be surprised if it turns out I have met them on some random occasion, but I don't recall so.

And as for available Shabbats -- Fri nights and Sat mornings, it's hard, of course; I'm usually gabbai'ing/leyning (respectively) when I don't have another major conflict already preventing me from being there! A Sat afternoon could be workable though. *checks calendar* Um, starting sometime after Memorial Day. :-} Maybe a Sunday afternoon?

Sundays are good. The difficult thing is figuring out when we will actually be here... Sat afternoon is nice but we really are over an hour away from you! But once we figure out what is happening vis a vis the house in Maine we will know more about our summer. Right now, yeah, June is wide open.

Life is complicated!
