Fasting was fine. But I was -- and am -- still plenty "afflicted." I was doing yardwork on Thursday -- nothing elaborate, just pulling weeds -- and now have the worst case of poison ivy I've ever had in my life. My arms are on fire. I actually woke up last night from the agony.

Caladryl can only do so much, and it leaves pink sludge everywhere. The Mrs. is a believer in rubbing alcohol, but it doesn't seem to do much. Ice, too -- it's all the same: they only help when they're wet; as soon as they dry off, it's back to torture.

Anyone have any good folk remedies?

According to mr. Archaeologist who has poison ivy all the time, calohist clear (we have the CVS store brand) and an ice cube to itch it works the best. There's some kind of stuff you can get to take the poison off you within a few hours of getting it on your skin too, but it's too late for that in this case.

"If my arm offendeth thee, Lord, cut it off." Apparently the best episode of Little House ever. And I can certainly appreciate it now.

this stuff (http://www.dermstore.com/product_Tecnu+%2812+oz%29_440.htm) and this stuff (http://www.dermstore.com/product_CalaGel_442.htm) are amazing! not a folk remedy but they do work. they generally aren't too hard to find at your outdoorsy-type stores or a walmart (esp as hunting season approaches).

Ah, benadryl. The Caladryl I've been using has benedryl in it. It does work, but only for a brief period of time. It may be that I have it so bad that it's just not effective enough in OTC form, and I should look into getting a prescription. If this goes on tomorrow, I might just do that.

Thanks!
