a satisfyingly liberal cup of coffee
Dec. 3rd, 2004 10:38 amFinally got my Air America mug via UPS... satisfyingly solid and big. I figured it would be kind of like a contribution to them, and it will be a nice collector's piece when they go under.
Not much to life right now but all trains, all the time (well, all non-work and non-baby time). I cleared out the basement and now have much of the track and layout work done. It's amazing how time-intensive it is... you spend hours figuring out where the track will go if it's a half-mm out of place. It's also a complex layout in that I'm cutting foam for the hills and tunnels, and the track angles that result from that, while very slight, still cause derailments if they're not perfectly aligned. And no, I'm not good at making them perfectly aligned. So there's a lot of trial and error.
My folks are coming to town tomorrow, which is good timing in several ways. For one, I definitely need some small purchases traditionally associated with my parents -- a new wallet, and a new electric razor. The former is so tattered that coins and bills are falling out of it all the time. The latter got destroyed by an airport luggage monkey. (I never check my baggage, but on a flight to Newark, they make you stow a typical carryon. The guy must have tossed it from quite a height, straight down onto the outer pouch where I keep the razor. It was smashed into a million bits. The computer I'm writing on was in the same bag, stupidly, but it seems to be working so far. At least the razor was pretty old and not working well anyway.) They will also get to play with the little one, who is undeniably adorable these days. So that's good. And the house is already clean from several sets of guests over Thanksgiving.
