Feb. 27th, 2005 07:38 pmWe were in Chinatown last week on the way back from New Jersey. We stopped in to Great Wall (formerly Pearl River), the Chinese gewgaw emporium on Grand (or Canal, or whatever that main street is there. We drove for about an hour trying to find a parking space, in which time I completely forgot, repeatedly, the names of any of the streets).
On the wall behind the counter was the following mystifying sign:
"GLASS CHEESES $10 EACH"
I looked all around the counter area looking for strange, painted glass cheeses. Maybe a Camembert or a Swiss. Really.
Finally, beneath the sign, I noticed:
A set of etched glass chessmen and board. I mean, it makes some sense, no?
