Sanpaku in the sense of having white under my pupils? No. Sanpaku in the sense of being cosmically unbalanced vis a vis the rest of the cosmic space-time continuum? Well...
The pic is the cover of the book You Are All Sanpaku, the original source of the whole macrobiotic thing. Since my wife was raised a macrobiotic vegetarian, my mother in law had it, and I got to check out its amazing cosmology, like that Kennedy was assassinated because he had white under his pupils. How many macrobiotic vegetarians are aware that the entire lifestyle is constructed out of pseudo-Buddhist buncombe? It's like a giant practical joke gone awry, as though people started taking the Book of the Subgenius as a real religion or something. Although, then again, I suppose it's no worse than Freud.
So it appeals to my Menckenesque appreciation for grandiose American con artistry and inside jokes... or something.
interesting background, sanpaku! I was dimly aware of Ohsawa's book, although I have not read it yet. Being familiar with (via other channels) the macrobiotic lifestyle, I am amused by your description of it's "pseudo-Buddhist buncome". (on a side note, that is only the second time I have seen the word 'buncombe' in print...cheers!)
As far as I am aware, there *is* some sort of bizarre indoctrination as to balancing the yin-yang qualites of one's foods. I'm not certain if that is what you're referring to? Anyway, looking at the remnants of my lunch, I wonder if a vegetarian pizza is a "yin" or "yang" food in Ohsawa's world? How about go-gurt? Oh, the possibilities are endless...
Speaking of good-ol Mencken, have I ever regaled you with the history of the bathtub? XD
Hey, if you want to say that certain foods are this or that, that's fine. But to say that Kennedy, Dien, and Marilyn Monroe all died because they were sanpaku... hi-larious.
Your vegetarian pizza is probably too yin (tomato being a "nightshade vegetable" if I recall correctly). Just about everything other than brown rice and sea salt is too yin. That includes most foods anyone would enjoy. Thus, macrobiotics.
Wasn't I the one who mentioned to you-all Mencken's thing about the bathtub? It's long been part of my standard shtick about Mencken. So if I neglected it -- I was remiss!
