Being in Las Vegas on a business conference makes me flash back to being stuck in Amsterdam for five days when I was there about ten years ago. "Fun" places for people who are into that sort of thing, ie apparently everyone else on the planet, are just irrelevant to me. So if anyone has been in this mystifying place and found something to do that did not involve stupidly blowing all your cash, let me know. Although with this heat, I am probably not doing much that involves leaving the Venetian. (My mother wants me to "see a show" -- Blue Man Group is in this hotel -- is this a worthwhile thing to do? It starts at 1 am Eastern Time for those of us on the jet lag.)

Yes, pretty much the whole world is wasted on me.

Blue Man is cool, but if it were me, I'd go to the Cirque shows. ALL of them. :-) (Yes, I know that still constitutes "blowing all your cash".)

How expensive are the Hoover Dam etc. kind of trips?

Had no time to do day trips, anyway, but I did hear that was cool.

Las Vegas is one of those cities that I'm secretly hoping never to step foot (or tire) in for my entire life.

You are correct to feel that way.

I saw Blue Man Group once in Toronto. It was fun in a wacky, hard-to-describe way. I can't speak to cost-benefit analysis as we were treated to the show (so I don't know the ticket price).

i've seen a number of le cirque shows and they are absolutely riveting in my opinion...i experienced all of these whilst in boston, so again i can't speak to the cost/enjoyment ratio in vegas.

randomly, is it true that there are no clocks in vegas? i think i came across that in a trivial pursuit game somewheres...

While in the hotel, this weird chimey noise struck on the hour, like Big Ben or something. I can't vouch for much else since, between working all day and the heat, I never left the hotel.
