Sep. 14th, 2001 03:47 pmSo it's the end of the day today... I took an editing test for one place that sounded pretty interested in me yesterday. It was so hard. Once you cleaned up the obvious mistakes you had to decide how much crappy writing to try to rewrite, without any guidance about how the place edits stuff. The sentences were awful but since it was supposed to be a journal article, and since it was someone else's piece, I assumed that I wasn't supposed to edit with too strong a hand. I'm sure I could have rewritten it to make more sense-- but I have to admit that when looking for editorial jobs that I'm really not sure how most companies operate. In my old job, they published everything without the author's name, so you "took ownership" of the thing and rewrote the hell out of it to try to make it make some sense. Now I'm suspecting that the fact that they didn't get back to me today means I punted it. Argh...
