I get to celebrate upgrading to a paid account with some new userpics. More to come.

So this means that I'm in LJ for good. But I also have to change. A look at this much-discussed box from the attic, filled with my collected pearls since 1988, confirms that yes, I have always been a pretty damn good writer, and yes, I have been doing the same veddy clever, self-deprecating, vaguely maudlin shtick all this time. All these LiveJournal posts over the last few months? With incredible prescience, I seem to have written them fifteen years ago. The man is nothing if not consistent. I have to find a new racket.

So I need some help in choosing how to mark the latest phase of my twenty-year-long midlife crisis my impending birthday, and LiveJournal is here to help:

[Poll #1251831]

But really: life is better.

What does Canute mean? I bought my car off a kid named "Canuto".

I'm a firm believer in diet + exercise = overall improvement in all arenas of life. Happier body leads to happier brain.

Hm, I have a big scoop of guacamole here that disagrees with your equation. But you know, I have been that way for too long. The real problem is that, practically speaking, my family would accommodate me having a drug habit more easily than me having an exercise regimen.

Yeah, the easy answer here is to make it a family-wide change (everyone eats healthier & does at least one sport regularly) but we all know how easy that is to put into action.

For older kids, no question. Mine are really little still. So it's mostly a matter of my wife juggling them for an hour or so while I do said exercise in addition to the hours she's juggling them for my job etc. My eating's actually not that bad at present.

Here's the rebuttal this thread is BEGGING for:

It will be so much easier for her to take care of them ALL THE TIME after you make your untimely exit from heart disease.

It's a good argument. After the first coronary, it might even carry the day.
