Jul. 4th, 2010 07:55 pmSomeone should write an essay about how Facebook is an interesting way to find cast-off ephemera. There's all kinds of random junk I've pursued and learned about just because someone I knew posted a link to it.
On the other hand, someone should also write about the uniquely annoying capacity of Facebook to give you opinions that you don't need. This has led me to mix it up twice in the last two days, which is something I really shouldn't do. The first one was some mom from my shul indignantly posting the "Diamond Rio" Republican meme, which I spotted as a hoax within the first five seconds. I commented with the Snopes link and that was all. Then, just now, some idiot decided that Rico's posting of the Galaxie 500 video "Fourth of July" was worst. video. ever, inspiring me to wonder aloud why someone would subscribe to a radio show blog only to crap on the musical choices of the hosts.
These are not really healthy things for me to do -- my imminent joblessness quickly converting me into a cranky letter-to-the-editor type. It's also just not very nice of me. But I find that I can't help myself.

Date: 2010-07-07 07:25 pm (UTC)I think the key to Republicanism (or at least this kind) is retention of childlike irresponsibility into adulthood. That, coupled with a total inability to internalize societal values.
