So I made a nifty Flickr set of the vacation photos. I know, it starts off boring like most vacation slideshows, but I did find a fair number of current vs. 1960s photos of the Fallsview and Nevele rooms, mostly grabbed off of post cards on eBay and the like. I also included some of the casino-promoting signage and plenty of ruins.

Then, to top it all off... that weird Asian, cult-like vibe that I got off the place? Some determined digging revealed... yep, the owner is an honest-to-God South Korean cult. Something called Dahn Hak Yoga that has actually killed people. Now it is revealed: the bizarre shrubbery spelling out H.S.P. in giant letters when we came in - not "Health, Serenity, Peace," but "Holistic Super-Sensory Perception." It's like we walked into a Holiday Inn run by the Landmark Forum or something.

There you have it: the Catskills of your memory can either be rejuvenated by Russian gangsters or by bizarre Korean cultists. Take your pick. I went in that goddamn waterfall. So I'm good either way.

How disturbing! There is a vegetarian restaurant in San Diego that my whole family enjoys, so it's become the go-to stop whenever I visit. I am not totally comfortable with the culty aspects of it (Sri Chinmoy), but I guess it doesn't sound quite as bad as your killer yoga cult.
