Thanks to everyone with kind wishes and helpful hints. I am feeling just completely blitzed by now and I appreciate you.

Anyway. Last night was going down to put the laundry in the dryer while Mrs. was taking a shower. Plink, plink, plink... what's that noise? Right in the middle of a mass of wires and pipes and stuff, directly above the boiler for the main heating unit of the house, a drip of cold water. There's a saturated piece of insulation. Dripping almost right on a box with the wires controlling the heater. Visions of electrical fires dance in my head. It must be some kind of backup from the shower or something (it did stop after the shower was done), though how there are water/drain pipes there is a mystery.

Now you would think that this is one of those normal things that you get your landlord to fix. But in one of those hilarious tenant situations we all get ourselves into, the room right next to the boiler has serious problems... that I don't want my landlord to see. Right after we moved in, Felix went AWOL for a few days. He somehow got inside the drop ceiling in the basement (and who knows where else-- it reminded me of "Alien"). We know this because the entire drop ceiling in that room collapsed. (Must have been quite a surprise to Mr. F!) The tiles were obviously old and the rods holding them up were rusty, and basically I cannot fix this myself. So I have to pay someone to come in and install a new ceiling. I knew the day would come that I would have to deal with this, because I would have to deal with the landlord.

Today's crisis... I foolishly volunteered to fill out a report that my predecessor in this job hadn't done, and then my supervisor called to tell me how to do it. "Just insert the names into the Excel document." Well, er, um, I don't actually own Excel. This is not a problem because Yahoo and Word both read Excel documents. But I can't generate a spreadsheet. Is that a problem. "Well, frankly, yes." Fuck. Don't worry, I am going to buy it tonight! ... Except now I find that I don't think they even make Excel for Mac OS 9 anymore (unless I feel like buying it with Office, $500). I can either make a fruitless schlep out to CompUSA to try to buy it, or see if I can't download everything at Kinko's. Either way, a pain. Why did I tell her I'd do this? Stupid.

Gotta go. More later, maybe.
