Summing Up
Jan. 1st, 2002 10:59 amGot home a little while ago and was sitting here looking at stuff when someone starts honking their horn outside... really really LOUD. Again and again and again. Finally I get up (our car isn't parked over there, can't involve us) and some guy in a black pickup truck with a US flag is yelling and honking his horn because the neighbors parked their truck too far on the road to get around. The neighbor finally comes out and the guy in the truck lets loose this stream of profanity. He looked halfway ready to jump out of the truck and beat the crap out of our neighbor. And anyone who drives around here knows (and if he's back here to begin with he must know), you just need to go around the other way, it takes maybe a minute, less time than it took him to scream all that. Sometimes it is not so much fun to live in Hazzard County.
Whatever. Great start to the new year.
We went to First Night, saw Chinese and Cambodian dancing in John Hancock Hall, it was pretty nifty. Ice sculptures were nice. But really really cold outside. Did pop in to J. & A.'s at the end, I think it was OK. I just don't understand, though. Why would you have a party for your friends without at least some music on somewhere. Second year in a row.
Went to dinner at Pizzeria Uno and played the little game of "what were the best moments of the year." It was such a lousy year, but it did have its moments. I think the best were from the trip out west-- floating in the Emerald Pond near the top of Lassen Peak, and camping under these huge trees on the coast of Oregon, getting up in the morning to go to the beach and watching the water sparkle through the finest sand I have ever seen... Others--
My day off in February when I tromped through the snowy woods with Phoebe.
Climbing to the top of the Bunker Hill monument.
Driving through the marshes near Newburyport
Discovering Fall River
Going to WaterFire in Providence with Mrs. S's family... pretty neat. Providence in general is a good place.
Walking around West Roxbury with Richie while waiting for Thai food
And it was a year ago today that I walked into the woods near our house and found a glorious hidden pond behind the quarry.
However most of this year was work... a haze covers my memory from the beginning of the year until about June or July... mostly I think because I was just working so much. As my father in law is fond of saying, when you look back on your life, you never think of the work. So I am glad I have LJ to put this stuff into. Where does the time go.
