I know, I know.
Mar. 4th, 2002 08:39 amI know I haven't posted in a while. I have had just too many things to think about without really feeling like going into them here. Let's see...
1) I basically decided not to take the Jersey thing, and to fix my star to the Board, but I'm waiting to hear whether or not they want me full-time in the fall, and I am getting a little edgy about why I haven't heard from them. It's one of those things where the person who needs to say yes is constantly out of contact with everyone else, particularly the person who I asked to ask him... Etc.
2) I went through an unpleasant and draining medical procedure that you don't want to hear about, trust me.
3) I finished grading the papers, collapsed with exhaustion, and didn't feel like doing anything for a while. Now I have to write the midterm.
4) I got The Sims ("aha!" I hear you say).
5) My friend Richie got engaged, finally.
6) My friend DeLisa is coming here for Passover, which is very nice.
7) We are thinking in earnest about moving to Providence, where we know a couple of people and which is closer to my teaching and which I just generally like better than Boston. Plus we figure it will be much cheaper.
8) I am going to Pittsburgh next week for the break, where I will have to pack up all the stuff from my parents' house as they prepare to move.
So I could easily write for hours on each one of those subjects, but I am near the peak of another torrent of work, and the prospect exhausts me. Suffice to say that for all that, I am feeling pretty OK.

Date: 2002-03-04 10:36 am (UTC)I have come to realize that all these simulation games are just based on the concept of the limiting factor. You remember this from high school bio class. "It has lots of sun and water, but my plant won't grow because it doesn't have enough nitrogen." The Sims is just the same thing, testing your ability to juggle more than anything else. Also the underlying premise of the game -- that money allows you to more efficiently address your needs, thus the more you have, the easier it is for you to get more -- is a good argument for a revolution!
But seriously, I do like the house building thing and it is nifty to raise a baby and all that. Mrs. Sanpaku made a character, and then I had my character propose to her character, and thus "annexed" her stuff... hee hee.
My friend Mr. Steen has Living Large... it's incredibly neat.
