The saga continues
May. 1st, 2002 03:33 pmOn the -- what is this, now -- fifth attempt to deal with the transmission fluid leak, they declared that it has been traced to the "torque converter cover" or the "front pump seal" and beyond these lie dragons, ie they'd have to crack something open that they couldn't fix. It will have to go to a transmission shop -- "If you can't live with it," the guy says. "I'd just live with it. It'll be expensive for them to fix." When the car guy says it's expensive, it's expensive. Eight or nine hundred bucks expensive.
I need the advice of the mechanically inclined. The car has 113K miles on it and I was really hoping to get 200K. The last thing I need right now is more car debt. The transmission crapping out from low fluid is one of those potentially fatal things that can destroy a car. But as far as I can tell the car's losing maybe a tablespoon of fluid a day. I check it every few days -- not an exact science, since the car has to be warm and the engine running and then the fluid always seems to be ABOVE the two dimples its supposed to be between. But it seems like its not going to run out of fluid soon. On the other hand, suppose it is some kind of crack that will worsen suddenly some day? Etc.
Grading papers is going slowly, though as usual it takes me much longer to force myself to sit down to do it than to actually grade them. Already have one paper that -- surprise! -- didn't follow the directions. I can't say enough how much this amazes me.
Had company on Monday night. Former colleague of mine from my old company. Much of the evening was spent watching their child use our silverware for experiments in distance propulsion. But the Mrs. made blueberry cobbler and it was a pleasant evening. How bourgeois.
