May. 12th, 2002 02:02 amSo the Mrs. is up in Maine, having a good time with her family, while I am stuck down here awaiting finals and with constant work to do. Unfair. If I had more time not working, would probably result in a number of odd LJ posts, but I don't know if I have the time. I have to write the final tomorrow.
Had vague thought of spending tonight "doing something the Mrs. wouldn't do." Came up blank except for bar food, but since I don't eat meat out anymore the idea had little appeal to me. Ended up wandering around Coolidge Corner in Brookline trying to find someplace to eat. Ended up at some Indian cafeteria-style place that did not do a great job with the mattar paneer or the chana masala. With Indian food, cheap equals badly overspiced. Thus I am up at 2am.
Don't know why I am on one of my "I wish I could read again" jags. Got out a book of Lovecraft stories, the novel Ironweed, some more bridge stuff from the liberry. Tonight bought Adbusters, Tikkun, and some nifty little zine out of Brooklyn called Stay Free. This last is devoted to debunking/exploring conspiracies and conspiracy theories, one of my hobbies lately. Looks pretty nifty. How I will read all this when I can barely keep up with a steady diet of the Times, the New Yorker, and the New York Review is an open question. (Not to mention the Economist, which my folks decided to get for me for some reason. I don't really read much of it, though I can tune out their schtick and it is useful for overseas news. Always important to know the election results in Uttar Pradesh.)
Saw A.I. on the DVD. Kinda creepy to channel Kubrick's ghost one last time, but it was a pretty effective movie for my four bucks.
Oh yeah and did I happen to mention I'M HAVING A FREAKING KID. So all this trivia seems especially ephemeral, but you know, it's not the easiest thing to wrap one's mind around or write anything constructive about yet.

the difference between thinking about it and doing it

Date: 2002-05-12 09:07 am (UTC)That is the dominant initial feeling... you walk around for about a week with your eyes wide and your mouth open.
My dominant feeling now is wondering when I will cease being able to think about anything other than what the baby is doing for longer than about 5 seconds. Followed closely by wondering when I start to go insane, as all our parents were/are.
My father-in-law's words: "Oh yeah. Your life is over."
