diner days
Oct. 14th, 2002 09:11 pmHad a quiet couple of days. This is the first time in my life, I think, that I have gotten one of these penny-ante "holidays" like Columbus Day off. So, even though I actually do have a fair amount of work to do, I tried hard to do nothing for much of the weekend. But there are actually papers to grade and one more copyediting assignment before I can really goof off in earnest.
Anyway, we saw Josh and Dalit down at his dad's home in Jamestown. Their kid is very sweet tempered and they do not seem to have become completely insane as a result of having her, so perhaps there is hope for us yet. We drove around the island that Jamestown is on and found some spectacular rock outcroppings that reminded me a lot of Maine. And a lot closer than Maine.
Today was a diner day -- breakfast at the Modern Diner, followed by a drive around the east shore of Narragansett Bay, from East Providence to Bristol, seeing all the little parks along the way, and ending up at Al Mac's Diner in Fall River. (Of course, what we're really missing these days is Baugher's.) Went to see the sunset at Salter Grove Park in Warwick -- this long seawall jetty sticking out into the bay, very close to our house. We saw no fewer than eight cats of all colors hanging out there in a sort of pack. Cold cats.
I'm making some Earl Grey to sip over journal articles about outsider board members (for copyediting). Fall is good.
