Time waster finished
Oct. 28th, 2002 05:10 pmSo I finished Myst III: Exile already. Bit of a surprise, actually, as before this weekend I had only cracked 2 of the 5 worlds, and they were not easy. But the last 3 came very quickly, giving me something of a "is that all?" kind of feeling. I did use hints in a couple of small places -- I bought the game, I figured I would try to enjoy figuring it out for as long as possible. The two places I got hints, one was for a puzzle that had pieces that I was certain were identical; I know I never would have figured out that they were not . The other was for a machine that required you to break the usual heuristic of the game by using something you carried with you. So I chalk those up to poor game design, as I really think I would never have figured out the solution to them.
Pretty good game, though as I say, a lot more could be solved through trial-and-error than I expected. Riven was much, much harder, at least in retrospect. Then again Exile didn't have any of those stupid mazelike puzzles that depend on you rolling a disc or whatever. I definitely needed hints to solve Riven (though I only had it over a Thanksgiving Day weekend and was anxious to "finish" it. Thanks, Bryn Mawr!).
So, what will I do to waste time now? Now that I have some time to waste.
