While working I get a chance to do something I have meant to do since getting a new computer-- listen to a Steelers game on the net. Which they of course proceed to lose in brutal fashion.

The Steelers are my one social vice, the sort of thing you do not admit to caring about in a room of snotty intellectuals. I think that I am entitled to one concession to sports, even if I can't explain why, exactly, I still care. But the point is that for my whole life I have been convinced that my personal actions influence the outcome of the game. I know that actually most sports "fans" have the same inexplicable feeling, that they sat a different way or moved the remote and somehow thus caused their team to lose. I am a believer in constructive irrationality and thus here conclude that on this occasion I PERSONALLY caused the Steelers to get sacked when they had no time outs left and should have just kicked a damn field goal. I did this by rewriting a sentence about religious magazines in the nineteenth century at a time when I should have concentrated all of my world-changing powers on ensuring the Steelers did not blow the game.

So all you Steelers fans out there can blame me. I admit it.

God damn it to hell.
