Dec. 31st, 2002 11:52 pmAn exciting New Year's Eve spent making my french onion soup and watching CQ. I wanted to see this movie because it was obvious from the trailer that it was some sort of homage to Diabolik, this extremely goofy Italian movie that was the last episode of MST3K. However, other than the presence of John Philip Law and a couple of minor shots, I think they mostly referenced Barbarella more than anything else. The movie was all right, not as interesting as I expected it to be, given the premise. With the exception of Ed Wood, most movies about making campy movies are not as interesting as they sound.
I remember right after MST3K got cancelled reading some idiot's review of the series putting it down because their last episode made fun of Diabolik, which was such a visionary New Wave piece and so inspiring and blah blah blah. People who trash the show because they like the movies they make fun of... because they don't understand that the show comes as close as anything can to honestly celebrating these goofy, weird, bizarre films that no one has ever seen. To be made fun of well, a bad movie has to be... good in a weird way.
Anyway.
