The baby is back to her normal, unswollen, un-pink self today, thankfully...

Got back from a teacher's workshop in northern Mass. to find the Mrs. almost having a nervous breakdown from the clutter in the house. We have so much crap for the baby, it's not even funny. Huge piles of toys (which she cannot use) and clothes (that are too large for her and that she will outgrow before it is a season of the year she can wear them) lie around all the bedrooms.

Not to be ungrateful or anything... but we are drowning in stuff that people have given her. Good advice: if you know someone who has a baby, don't get the baby a cute outfit or a toy. Cash is impersonal but they will thank you so much more for thinking of the fact that the baby will need a college fund someday a lot more than that cute outfit.

So, this is definitely the wrong time to indulge my taste in "model railroad pr0n"... But we went to AB Charles in Pittsburgh this weekend and got a catalog filled with the niftiest tiny Z Scale trains you ever saw. (Check out the model of Neuschwanstein Castle.) Model trains, of course, require a basement, which we don't have and won't ever have. Also, Z Scale is even more impractical than N Scale, in that hardly anyone makes stuff for Z Scale and it's incredibly expensive.

My interest in juvenile hobbies often resurfaces when I am trying desperately to ignore a mounting pile of "grown-up" work... in this case a copyediting assignment due next Friday that I haven't started, the year's taxes, and housecleaning/shopping/going insane for Passover. Just like every year: "March 15 already?" [splat!] So it is definitely springtime.
