Unexplained disappearances
Jul. 8th, 2003 01:44 pmYou use this thing for so long, you take stuff for granted. Then all of a sudden, things change. Like
flw and
librarygrrl changed their userpics. And now
hungrymadchen and
satori1970, who are sisters, both deleted their journals. What is going on?
What is going on with me is this: we had a Giant Moquito Invasion last night, when the window was left open -- they get in through the screen. The bedroom is littered with at least a dozen mosquito corpses. This was while trying to watch Gangs of New York, though it would seem that we didn't miss much. Gorgeous to look at, probably generally sort of accurate to what it was trying to show (though the many historical inaccuracies have been related elsewhere). But Martin, Martin... what the heck was up with that "plot"?
I am also finally reading A. H. W. O. S. G., after waiting about as long as I could not to, I suppose.

Date: 2003-07-08 11:47 am (UTC)What I want to know is this: how do you make those neato links to other people's lj? I look at the code and it baffles me. Is there an LJ shortcut?
Re:
Date: 2003-07-08 12:25 pm (UTC)Your new LJ userpic looks a lot like one for someone else on my friendslist. Where'd you nick it from?
Re:
Date: 2003-07-08 01:48 pm (UTC)I can't remember where I got it but I found it using the good ol' google image search.
I should change it back. Don't want to be confused with anyone...

Date: 2003-07-10 12:11 pm (UTC)I really should pony up some money to LJ so I can make more than 6 images. It's really a sort of minor art form, as with so much in this medium...

Date: 2003-07-10 05:13 pm (UTC)As far as images, I do have early adopter perks, and that's one. Though I would have more if I shelled out and paid.
Like most SNL skits, that one wore out pretty quickly, but it certainly was apropo, for metro Boston, anyway.
It's too late baby now, it's too late.
Date: 2003-07-10 06:33 pm (UTC)oh and speaking of skinnydipping? It is almost half past July and I've not yet taken a dip. Damnit!

Date: 2003-07-10 06:40 pm (UTC)You will probably be sick of Maine ponds by the time we see you, but if you want to see a nifty one right next to a mountain, that would be a nice trip not far from us. (Not far=25 min.)

Date: 2003-07-10 06:51 pm (UTC)I used to go to a somewhat public nudie beach in Burlington, but my big city ways have brought back the old inhibitions. Not sure I'd be up for that at this point. There must be some very isolated Maine ponds for swimming the way nature intended, no? Free yourself from the tyranny of bathing suits!
This real time LJ is almost like slo-mo IM...
Re: impossible
Date: 2003-07-10 06:57 pm (UTC)There are millions of ponds here, mostly glimpsed through trees as you drive past. As in most places, the ponds here are owned by Private Property Abutters who try like crazy to keep everyone out. I do think that someone with a canoe, however, can go just about anywhere; if we ever lived up here permanently it would really be a great thing to do. Anyway, anything small and isolated would be full of mosquitos, anyway. As it was I got bit by mosquitos and/or horseflies more than half a dozen times today, mostly on the inside of my knees. After this summer, you know what? I have decided that I REALLY don't like mosquitos.
Re: impossible
Date: 2003-07-10 07:04 pm (UTC)That was the great thing about VT. People just don't tend to post their land up there. Not yet, anyway. You just go swim when you see a pond, and you just walk across a field when you see a big glacial rock just made for sitting. If people see you on their land they just wave at you. It takes some getting used to.
