Jul. 22nd, 2003 11:21 pmBack in Providence... heading up to Maine again tomorrow. I know that I am going to be up until 3 am today. That's the price to pay after
flw and I went all over LA last night, from Venice Beach to Mulholland Drive. I must say, it made LA not look quite as bad as it must be. Every time I go on a trip like this, whether to Oregon or San Francisco or wherever, I think, "I could imagine living here, I guess." Except that I have to stop thinking like that. (Actually I also spent a lot of time on this trip thinking how we really should buy a house sometime soon.)
Popped into
one_11's place, where I saw him for about 20 seconds. Then the rest of us hung out playing Vice City. Not surprisingly, when I went to bed last night all I could do was dream about running people over and blowing their heads off with a sniper rifle. That game is pure, undistilled sociopathy. And for individuals of the male persuasion, probably as close to inducing addiction as anything in non-drug form possibly can. Shame, shame. Only six weeks to football season, too.
Speaking of male behavior, I think I will kill time tonight by seeing whether the new Tom Green show is any good.
The conference was OK, although sitting in conference rooms all day is never that much fun. The teachers are fine. But you remember your teachers, right? Remember what you thought they did when they weren't teaching? You were right. So it's not really especially creative for me to watch other people go through training seminars, which are about the same no matter what the subject matter or the profession.
And I wrote a paragraph on my research progress, but deleted it because it's too damn boring for even me to look at.

Date: 2003-07-22 08:41 pm (UTC)I'm a girl, and I've been playing that game a lot. I don't think I'm as glued to it as my male friends. I find it less creepy than GTA III... at least the main character actually talks in the cut away segments....

Date: 2003-07-23 06:39 pm (UTC)Maybe not as creepy, but I can't imagine anything more sociopathic. Last night I watched my roomie sit on a balcony and shoot several dozen cops and innocent bystanders in the head with a sniper rifle.
Not in real life, in the game.
It didn't earn him money or points or anything. He was just doing it because he could. And I sat and watched him do it, offering encouragement while chuckling. Chuckling!
Yes, we men and our crazy primitive war brains.
Anyway, sorry I was AWOL most of the night, Sanpaku. A long phone call of personal importance was underway in my room. I hung up and was disappointed to see you'd split.
You are right -- L.A.'s not so bad, especially if you don't have to drive.

Date: 2003-07-24 09:47 am (UTC)I surmised that something Very Important was going on with you. Hope it turned out the way you wanted. In the meantime, I needed to leave before I ate all those donuts and brownies....
